Default Multi-tasking - 06-19-2007, 04:15 AM

One of the things that make small business owners so successful in the workplace is that they are good at multi-tasking. I read somewhere that women are better multi-taskers than men but I am not sure how true that is. I am sure it would be the same for men who own their own businesses, unless they have the money to just hire people to do it for them.

I remember when I had a six month contract with a large, international financial company. Since I had been freelancing for quite a while, I became a pro at multi-tasking and adapting. I got hired during their busy season. Since no one had time to train me that day, I just sat down at a computer and started working on a job. Everyone was shocked at how I adapted so quickly. I know it’s because all freelancers have to learn to do this or it’s sink or swim.

Yes women are good at m.t. but so is my hubby. I can do it better because I choose to task more than he does. Those of us who are at home moms do the best I think.

With more males staying home to take care of the kids, they definitely get to know how women have to multitask to survive. It’s just that I don’t know many.
I really think it is a learned behavior. Some are better than others at doing it and has to do with how we choose to react in our environment.

I used to be better at multi-tasking a few years ago, now I'm finding I can barely keep my head above water.

How so Fizz? Are you taking on too much or is it that you don’t have enough support or both? I think it’s important to have a good partner otherwise, one might as well just live alone if one is going to do everything oneself.

The kids are out of school for the summer, I'm taking classes, and I work from home, plus I am developing a new website. I suppose I've just bitten off a little to much at once, but I'm managing.

Multitasking is critical in some jobs. I found it very difficult for me until I started carrying a small notebook with me all the time to make notes. Now, I get 'er done!
