Default An Eco-Friendly Answer to Your Paper Woes - 05-28-2007, 02:23 AM

Today, we hear the terms "greenhouse effect" and "global warming" often on the news, in magazines, newspapers etc.
There is enough evidence to prove that this problem exists, but what can we do to prevent it from further degrading our Earth?
Many scientists and researchers are developing new technologies, but did you know that there is a way to organize your piles of scrap, at the same time, help the environment?
The answer is simple and you might have already heard of it already: RECYCLE!!!!

Many people may already know lots about recycling, but still "Commercial and residential paper waste accounts for more than 40% of waste going to the landfill." (Why Recycle Paper?)

"Making new paper from old paper uses 30% to 55% less energy than making paper from trees and reduces related air pollution by 95%."

Therefore, instead of leaving your piles of junk mail or scraps in the corner, you could sort them through. Anything that is no longer useful can be collected and you can either leave the pile for your local curbside recycling program or at a drop-off center.

recycling seems easier said than done. i was at the gas station a couple days ago and watch someone throw their macdonalds cup under their car, when th garbage was 2 feet away.

it sickened me.

I agree, it is easier said than done. at my school, recycling cans are almost in every classroom. but still i can't help but suspect that the school doesn't even separate regular garbage with paper, bottles and other materials that can be recycled. I also find the amount of care some people give to the environment rather astonishing. it's like they don't even regard it as anything significant when this problem will definitely affect the world in the long run.

We need to think for our future. These day I see some kind of warning about Global Warming on a daily basis. So all of us have to play our part to have a better future. May be at some stage we will see paople getting fined for throwing the McDonald's cup anywhere other than the garbage can. Unless these people change their habits may be that day is not far away.

i think we need to impliment tougher penalties for littering etc and actually inforce them instead of just posting signing which no one even seem to really see.

I already recycle. I have been doing it since I moved into this house with a big barrel provided for recycling.
