Well I think he might mean information sensitive documents. Those I agree that you need to shed before discarding them.

If it is a small quantity I would say just take them to a local recycling centre yourself. If you regularly have a large volume of sensitive documents that need disposal I would suggest looking for a secure document disposal service.

but just remember: Never recycle shredded paper. some organizations won't accept it and even if they do, paper made from ones that were shredded are weaker. they may even cause fires or other maintainence problems at the paper mill. on the other hand, you might want to try composting with shredded paper instead.

You're right our garbage pickup will not use shredded paper for recycling. I never really understood that but my husband burns it in our burn barrel out back. That is what I would do if you are allowed to burn stuff where you are at.

Thanks for the information.

I live in a condo and I've seen bags of shredded paper left in the paper and cardboard recycling bin. I didn't realize that it was an issue.

I guess in that case it's disposed of when it's sorted from the recyclable material.

I really don't get why it is an issue. I would think that they still would be able to recycle the paper even if it is shredded. But for some reason they won't always take it. Not sure why that it.

Want the ideal way to dispose of shredded paper? Find someone with pocket pets. My son and daughter have 3 pet rats and we give them all of our shredded papers. It not only makes excellent and inexpensive bedding, but they love to run through it and listen to it rustle around!
