Default Have a yard sale! - 06-14-2007, 05:25 AM

The whole family can get in on this one. Every 6 months or so have a yard sale. Everyone grab stuff they haven't used or are tired of or have grown out of and sell it. Then have a pizza party or go shopping for a family project or game.

Moving stuff out of your house keeps the clutter down. Or you could just donate it.

Every Christmas I usually clean out the toys to make room for new ones. We usually donate them.

Yes I just had a yardsale and it was a great way to get the closets cleaned out and made it easier to organize.

That's the key to getting organized. Getting the clutter out of the way first. Then you have space to work with.

I find it a good idea of having a yard sale. First, kids learn how to recyle their old toys, second, kids are happy if they get a little money out of those toys sold out and lastly, you have again extra space for new ones.

That sounds like a good idea. Do you keep a watch out for anything that may bring more money on eBay?

I guess at times it's a trade off - A little less money selling something at a garage sale, but it's probably more convenient.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to do a garage sale so I just give my stuff to the local thrift stores. Some have closed down due to high rents in this city. I never thought I would go to a thrift store and be refused my stuff!

I was just talking to a home based business owner today who told me that doing business on ebay can be extremely competitive. You either have to undercut everyone or have something really unique to sell to make a good living. Has anyone had this kind of experience before?

Actually, I have learned that this isn't true! I have an eBay store and have learned that no matter what else is for sale you can always have an advantage. The key is in shipping, return policy, wording, etc. Say someone has an item for sale for $10 plus $5 shipping. You list the exact item for $15 and FREE shipping. Odds are, you are going to sale your item first. Return policy and payment policies are very important as well. YOu just have to experiment to learn what people want!

Silver is right on this. People want it for nothing. If you do have something like nothing else on there, it'll sell.

I make home made baby gifts and couldn't sell them for what the material costs at the store. Some things may not be worth selling on ebay. You may be stuck with the insertion fee in the end. But do some research on the item on ebay before you decide to sell it.

I used to help my mom do yard sales when I was a kid. We often would get the whole neighborhood into it. Then everybody could clean up, in more ways then one.
