Default Oh, my kids! - 06-14-2007, 05:44 AM

I give them bins, buckets and shelves. I have them in every room. Everything in my house has a spot it belongs in so when you go to use it again it's there. My kids don't get it. They forever are messing up my organization.

How do I get them to keep things where they belong?

I'm frustrated.

Cool I would also - 06-14-2007, 05:13 PM

Like to know how to do that too. I love to organize .But getting the rest of the family to do it is something else. I have a 16 yr old daughter who loves living in squallor! Her room is also off the living room .My remedy for that (other than cleaning it myself) is to close the door! I have 5 people to clean up after. None do much of that themselves!

Have you tried a reward system for your kids every time they put whatever it is they are playing with back up in the correct place they get a star, then when they reach say 5 stars they get a dollar then when they reach 10 stars they get to pick somewhere to eat and so on and so on until they reach a big number then they get something big like say having a friend over or taking them a friend out and spending the night at hotel. Something to work them up to it until it just becomes a natural thing.

My oldest has started to put his stuff away simply because he was tired of having stuff missing when he would want it. Now my youngest is terrble about it at the moment. I hope he picks up after his brother.

I think I've tried everything to get them to use their bins and whatnots but it just doesn't work. I'm wondering if I keep after them they will eventually do it when they move out.

Then I'm going to go to their houses and mess it up while I'm babysitting.
