Default spice cupboard - 07-08-2007, 02:50 AM

I'm looking for a really good way to display all my spices in my cupboard. I have roughly 30 of those little bottle thingies and I would like to know where they are at all times so I don't end up buying duplicates at the store if I can't find anything. Please help!

I have a spice rack on my kitchen wall... I find that if i keep my spices in a cupboard sometime when a lid is not shut properly, or a bag is left open it makes my cupboard smell.

There are many options for a spice rack, wooden ones are nice but mine is an old bathroom bottle rack that i put everything in.. you could also just put a cuople of shelves on the wall

Have you ever seen the spice racks that are in wide, shallow drawers?

I've seen that style and I like them. The spices are out of the way till you need them. But of course that has to be built into your cupboards.

I keep mine on a turnstile in the cupboard. That is not to say that they are real organized but I can grab what I need.

We were given a spice rack, sm metal canisters with a magnet on the bottom and a swish lid that permits pour or sprinkle as a housewarming gift. They attach to a magnetic metal strip on the side of the fridge and I bless that thoughtful friend daily! So handy, so efficient, so unobtrusive.

My current project is to create spice mixes I use a lot. It's so bothersome to get out all those sm jars, unscrew the lids, measure out, and put that all back! For example, the spices used for chicken [parsley, thyme, rosemary, marjoram], likewise for Italian, Tex-Mex, Greek, Asian, French, BBQ, Apple pie etc.

We put a shelf in our cabinet that has two steps so you can see all of the spices and they are put in alphabetically. I don't ever have to worry about buying duplicates. I prefer them in a cabinet as I don't have a lot of space on the wall or counters and I prefer less visual clutter.

Actually, you can purchase the spice drawer inserts at many retail stores. I have a spice drawer and I love it, but a lot of kitchens don't have enough drawers to devote one to spices. Also, the drawer doesn't hold everything, so I put my "cooking" spices in the drawer and my "baking" spices on a lazy susan in my cabinet. Oversize spice containers that won't fit in the drawer also go on the lazy susan.

Beryl,

Great tip. Try Bed Bath & Beyond stores for such containers. You will find a lot of of them there. .
