I find that I use tubs for all my old shoes that I wanna keep, or shoes that are out of season, like boots when it's summer time. I like to use over the door shoe display thingy for the shoes that I'm currently wearing. I agree with the tub theory. I use to just leave them on the bottom of the closet and then dig through them. I have clear shoe boxes from The Container Store. The only shoes on my floor are 2 pair of boots, running shoes & slippers. I store the containers on the top shelf of my closet. I use a canvas shoe organizer that hangs in my closet for in-season shoes. Off-season shoes live in an underbed storage bin.
