How efficient and time consuming is recyclling? Does everyone on this board have a recycling service in their neighbourhood or at least a place to go where they can recycle stuff?

I don't think it's as time consuming as one might think. I think it's just a matter of developing your own personal system for doing it.

Where I live the trash company gives you a recycling bin along with your trash can. I don't believe it's to hard to recycle your stuff just takes a bit of organizing your different recycling boxes because once that is done all you have to do is throw it away like your normally would

What pick-up options are available in your community? We have private 'blue-box' curbside pick-up for a monthly fee or City no-fee huge 'green box' service at all shopping centres.
We have bins for newspaper/mixed paper, cans, jars, bottles and 'special ' containers which charge a deposit.

Instead of thowing these items into 'trash' we throw into their designated bin. When a bin is full, we take it to the car and drop off/dump into the correct green box on the next trip out. There are so many drop off places we pass one no matter where we go.

At our town transfer station that have recycling stations so my husband brings our recycling there on Saturdays. We have a blue box for metal/glass and a green box for paper. It is mandatory in our town to recycle. If caught not recycling then it is a $50 fine.

Our transfer station (for now) does not have a fee. Recycling has cut down the amount of trash significantly so it is worth it to us.

We have curb side recycling for mixed paper, newspaper, cardboard, glass, plastics and metals. We also have several county sponsored sites (within 5miles) for paint, chemicals, and yard debris. Lastly, we have specialty recycling with groups i.e. Boy Scout Troop arranging computer and technology drop-offs, schools collecting empty printer cartridges (within 2 miles). I agree that recycling isn't any more trouble to do, that is, once you have a system in place, then taking the trash out.

I usually leave presorted recyclable materials to be collected by a recycling vehicle.
