Default Financial Statement Organization - 05-29-2007, 01:04 PM

I have lots of Financial related statements. Few are from my bankers and there are other statements also. I would like to get suggestions on how to keep all of them organized.

I usually divide my finacial papers in a manilla folder that has dividers in them and I just name them for each institute. Its one big folder that you can buy I forgot what its called but you can go to office depot and get one.

It's an accordian file! You ca get ones that have handles or you can get one that fits on your desk. I highly recommend one.

Keeping the documents in a date-wise manner and in an accordian file really helps to solve the problem. Thank you for such nice suggestions.

What I do that has really worked for me is in my home office I have a nice large computer desk with a built-in armoire.
I have one large bottom drawer made just for my wife's and my financials. It is all broken up by categories such as car expensive(repairs, purchases, etc...), bank statements and each bank has it's own file as does the type of account, i.e. checking, savings, CD's, and such. Then inside each folder it is separated by date. So when you open a folder the most recent paperwork is right in front.
It has made it so quick and easy to find anything we need. Plus my wife is a CPA so we have a better chance of getting audited so if the IRS ever need's anything we'll have it right here in easy reach to prove our financials.

Thanks ProjectCamaro for providing us with details on how better one can organize financial statements. Although I also have files to keep things recorded but this seems to be a brilliant way to keep everything yet be able to get them on time.

I find it easier to keep them in three ring binders with the newest to the front. Eash person or business has their own three ring binder.
