We have a newish puppy and were surprised at how quickly stuff accumulated. We use a mesh basket originally purchased for yard tools which stays at the bottom of the stairs for toys, a 2nd wicker basket stays upstairs under the desk for toys. Food is in a lg. glass cookie jar with a firm lid and it's own measure cup, currently staying on our 'orphan' counter. Grooming equipment is handy in a 'see thru' shoe box, under the end table in the living rm.
D/puppy has his own hook at the door for lead, roll of pick-up bags, and fanny pak I use for treats and training.
