Successful kitchen pantry organization can take some organizational tricks as well as a little bit of creative use of space. Here are some techniques anyone can use to create an organized kitchen pantry.
The best way to organize your kitchen pantry is to group things into categories. Do you make a lot of pasta? Store your pasta, sauces and other ingredients together. Breakfast items such as cereal and granola bars can be stored on a lower shelf so children can reach them easily. If you do a lot of baking, you should have an area just for baking mixes and other ingredients. Do you only bake once or twice a year? Put your baking items out of the way on a lower or upper shelf, or in a different cabinet. This will give you more space to organize your kitchen pantry items.
Items such as canned goods should be organized in your kitchen pantry the same way a store organizes canned goods. Group like items together. All veggies together, fruits together, sauces together. There is nothing more useful than a good household hint. Here are a few handy household hints that you may not have seen before.
Pest Control Household Hint: A household hint that you may not know about is that many species of ants hate the smell of mint. In fact, the tradition used to be to plant mint outside the kitchen door, partly to keep ants away.
The next time you see a line of ants invading your home, try this household hint. Cut open a mint tea bag and sprinkle a pinch of it across their path. In many cases, they will go out of their way to walk around it rather than go through the mint.
There are a few different ways to use mint to your advantage when keeping ants out of the kitchen. Planting mint outside your kitchen door is one, of course. Ants will sometimes just find another way to the kitchen though. For this household hint, a more direct approach is best. A drop of mint oil in the corners and along the back edge of your cabinets will keep mint-avoiding ants at bay. The first thing you’ll need when organizing your kitchen cabinets is a staging area, such as a clean countertop or your kitchen table. You’ll be using this in order to spread your things out so that you can really see what you have. You’ll also need some boxes or bins so that you can categorize and store things as you go, as well as putting things aside to give away.
A great place to start organizing your kitchen cabinets and drawers is by cleaning out the cooking utensil drawer. Take everything out so you can see it. Take all the items you only need a few times a year and put it in a box - label it Seasonal Kitchen.
