Got a Messy House? Here Are Some Tips to Get Organized

Have you ever heard someone say, “I can make a mess like nobody’s business?” This remark isn’t limited to children! In fact, some adults seem to take pride in their mess-making abilities. Children are quite often the first ones to come to mind when someone mentions the mess making topic, however.

A young girl was once overheard making a remark about being in competition with her older brother to make the biggest mess in their respective bedrooms. Much to the mother’s relief, this didn’t include food or drink!

The same young girl seemed to be born creating clutter.

Since becoming old enough to toddle around the home, she was discovered to be a natural explorer. She could indeed make a mess like nobody’s business. She would go from room to room pulling anything and everything within reach out of doors, drawers, and cabinets. Her delight was in un-organizing anything her mother had organized.

On the contrary, her brother was taught at an early age to be organized. He enjoyed helping around the house. When he would visit the home of a friend with a messy house, he would return home to remark that he was glad his home wasn’t like that. Over the years, these two children switched roles.

The boy hit puberty and lost all sense of how to organize and de-clutter while the girl takes pride in her environment and in her ability to organize and reduce clutter.

The boy has wasted an unknown amount of money buying things he already owns simply because he can’t find them in the mess in his bedroom. He became the one who can make a mess like nobody’s business!

It rings true in his vehicle, his bathroom, and any other room he tends to spend any amount of time in when he is home. He begins as soon as he walks in the door, tossing belongings on the kitchen table.

Some adults have an impeccable business image.

They’re on top of things with a neat office, neat car, and neat appearance. They know where and what to do and manage employees with ease.

These same people can have no control whatsoever with their family and home lives. They forget birthdays and anniversaries, school events, can’t find their ties, and forget to buy bread on the way home. If a family member asks for a favor, they never seem to remember. If a business associate asks for a favor, they don’t forget.

You don’t have to fit into any specific category to be able to make a mess like nobody’s business. People of all ages and from all walks of life, married or single, parents or not, can become masters of clutter and disorganization.
