How to Get Rid of Clutter

Clutter builds up over time. It doesn’t happen overnight. And getting rid of clutter won’t happen overnight either. It takes time and effort, and will power. Keep that in mind as you read on.

Clutter is not always the result of disorganization. Most often it is the result of too much stuff in too small of a space. Sometimes the things cluttering up our homes is the stuff that we actually use every day, but it has no home, no place that it belongs. And so the stuff gets shuffled from place to place, becomes piled up, and the next thing you know you have a pile of clutter.

So how do you get rid of clutter that you need? You get rid of the hidden clutter that you don’t need to make more room.

If your clutter is in your bedroom, go through your clothing piece by piece. If you haven’t worn it in six months or it no longer fits, get rid of it. You’ll find the rest of your clothes now fit in your closet and drawers.

If your clutter is in your bathroom, go through your medicine cabinet, vanity drawers, and make up. Throw out anything that is over a year old, and anything that is no longer used. Organize the cabinets and drawers rather than throwing everything in, and you’ll discover you have more room than you thought.

If your clutter is in your kitchen, go through your cabinets. Throw out any pots, pans, cooking utensils, mixing bowls, measuring cups, measuring spoons, and other clutter. Give away or toss out any canned and boxed food that you have not used, for whatever reason, within the last six months. You’ll find that your kitchen clutter is reduced greatly.

If your clutter is in the living room, go through your movies, magazines, and books and decide what you haven’t watched in over a year, or read in over six months. If in all likelihood you will never read or watch that item again, give it away or toss it. Your clutter will melt away, leaving more room for new movies, magazines, and books.

As you will see, getting rid of clutter can actually be quite simple when you get down and decide to do the work. You don’t even have to get rid of anything you will use, or anything with sentimental value. Just get rid of the clutter that you don’t need and don’t use, and the rest of the clutter will resolve itself.
