Pack Rat Syndrome: Compulsive Behavior Causing Clutter Hoarding

What is a pack rat syndrome? This article will give you a view of the different behaviors to know whether or not you are a compulsive behavior pack rat.

This article will also have a short section explaining next steps you can take if you know someone who may struggle with this particular situation.

The first behavior often seen with a compulsive behavior pack rat is hoarding of items which no longer carry any value. This could be in the form of sentimental objects which no longer help you out or of items which someone wants to keep out of fear of forgetting particular memories.

The second behavior often seen with a compulsive behavior pack rat is that the hoarding of these items will often interfere with their daily lives.

Everyone holds onto many items which are past their needed lifespan but a pack rat is an individual who holds onto many things out of here.

With a compulsive behavior pack rat, there is no single age or gender which is affected primarily by this. A person affected with this problem could neglect his or her life and may hoard items due to certain events which may have happened in his or her life.

This is a disease and it must be treated.

This is not a behavior which you should immediately intervene with but rather you should work on a strategy to talk with a person who you may feel is a compulsive behavior pack rat.

If you find that you know someone who is a compulsive behavior pack rat, you should talk with the other loved ones with and that family and make a decision on how you want to handle this behavior in a group manner.

It will not help you if you decide to confront the person by yourself as you will probably need help from others in making the compulsive behavior pack rat address his or her problem.

You also want to get the person suffering from this problem to be involved within the solution and to take ownership of the problem so do not make decisions without getting input from that person.

Hopefully this article on a compulsive behavior pack rat has given you information on what typical behaviors are along with a little bit of information about the disease and the route you should take in addressing the situation if you know someone suffering from this.

There are agencies which can help you with this so do not feel that you need to solve this problem by yourself.
